We celebrated 46 years of gift giving here at Child and Family Services of Michigan, Inc., (CFSM) with Operation Good Cheer 2017. And what a fantastic year it was! We partnered with 75 agencies to fulfill Christmas wish lists for 6,453 of Michigan’s foster care children.
We are so thankful for our awesome donors and volunteers for making this a fantastic year. On December 1, 2017 more than 19,000 gifts provided by donor groups, families and individuals were unloaded and sorted by hundreds of volunteers at Oakland County International Airport. 27 trucking companies volunteered their services and semi-trucks to pick up gifts and deliver them to designated drop-off sites. Throughout the day, hundreds of volunteers met at Pentastar Aviation’s hangar to unload the gifts and sort them for delivery the next day.
On December 2, 2017, Spirit of Good Cheer flight was in full swing. Volunteer pilots diligently made their journeys across the state to deliver thousands of gifts to their destinations. Over 265 flights were completed to 26 airports. Volunteer truck drivers also drove throughout the day to ensure every last present on board was delivered to participating agency volunteers, eagerly awaiting their arrival.
Thank you everyone, for all of your hard work and making Operation Good Cheer 2017 possible and a huge success!

Though things may be cooling down outdoors, at Child and Family Services of Michigan, Inc. (CFSM) things are warming up fast as preparation for Operation Good Cheer (OGC) continues! Less than two months away, OGC has had another successful year of gaining new agencies, children and donors. Children and agencies have been confirmed; and now, it is your turn! Our donors enjoy every step in the process of making Christmastime for a child in need wonderful. From shopping for and wrapping gifts, to receiving your very own thank you letter in the mail, OGC makes the Christmas season brighter for all involved. Every gift purchased by our donors will have a lasting impact on the child you have sponsored; whether it is warm clothing for the long winter ahead or a bike to keep them healthy and active with their friends. There is no better way to understand the importance of donations such as these than when your personal thank you card arrives. To add to the fun and Christmas spirit, we suggest involving the entire family, staff or group in the process of choosing gifts that will truly improve the lives of these children and youth.

Summertime in Michigan can get especially hot outside and most find it difficult to think about Christmas already. However, the staff at Child and Family Services of Michigan, Inc. (CFSM) is just warming up and preparing for Operation Good Cheer to be the hottest event of December 2014! We once again renew our commitment to ensuring a bright future for the nearly 14,000 children and youth in foster care in Michigan, and we celebrate all those who make a meaningful difference in their lives.
CFSM will kick off our 2014 campaign on July 16th when we meet with foster care agencies from all across Michigan to gain additional participation and continually increase the number of children that are touched by Operation Good Cheer. This is also the beginning of an outreach campaign to all our loyal donors and volunteers from previous years, and we seek new ones to take on increasing numbers of children.
